BJP Hails BCCI Move as ‘Victory of the Hindus’ on Shah Rukh Khan Controversy.

Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), faced massive backlash after signing Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman for ₹9.20 crore at the IPL 2026 auction. The deal sparked outrage amid reports of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, with BJP leaders and spiritual gurus accusing the Bollywood icon of betraying Indian sentiments. Critics argued that Indian money should not fund players from a nation targeting Hindu minorities.

Spiritual leader Devkinandan Thakur questioned how Shah Rukh, backed by Hindu fans, could ignore victims across the border. BJP’s Sangeet Som branded him a “traitor,” escalating the row with calls to prioritize “Sanatani” feelings. Social media exploded with “anti-national” labels and threats, turning a cricket contract into a communal flashpoint.

The BCCI reportedly directed KKR to release Mustafizur before IPL 2026, prompting Som to celebrate it as the “victory of the Hindus of the entire nation.” He claimed Shah Rukh had learned not to challenge 100 crore Sanatanis.

Muslim leaders defended the actor, stressing solidarity with Bangladesh Hindus while decrying the divisiveness. The episode highlights how cricket and cinema fuel political battles, testing India’s pluralist ethos.
